An demonstration of this is like in the example below, this is a typical structure to a story in the style of beats.
- Beat 1 – Introduce the world the film will be in
- Beat 2 – Introduce the character
- Beat 3 – Introduce the problem
- Beat 4 – How the character chooses to solve the problem
- Beat 5 – The character experiences a major set back
- Beat 6 – The character is almost defeated
- Beat 7 – The character rejects a solution
- Beat 8 – The character discovers a solution
An example of what beats look like is this.
- Beat 1 - A man walks into the elevator
- Beat 2 - A man stands alone in the elevator
- Beat 3 - 3 Large people walk into the elevator
- Beat 4 - 3 more large people walk into the elevator
- Beat 5 - 1 more large person walks into the elevator, the man from the beginning notices the 'maximum weight' sign.
- Beat 6 - The man from the beginning calculates the current maximum weight and realises the weight of the current elevator is over the average.
- Beat 7 - A huge man walks towards the elevator
- Beat 8 - The man from the beginning flees the current elevator
- Beat 9 - The man enters a new 'normal' elevator
- Beat 10 - All of the people in the new elevator are sick and begin to cough, so does the man from the beginning.
- Beat 11 - The man from the beginning realises that the sick people are en route to a Swine Flu examination.
